McClintock Mindstorm Madness (M^3)

The Robotics Club is a competitive team that meets every Tuesday after school through Family Night and Thursdays after school until 5:30 We meet in Room # A-4. The club is organized by Mr. Taylor and Mr. Beyer. This is a McClintock Middle School and CLC collaboration.

Our Goals:

- Students will have a practical understanding of engineering principles, data collection and problem solving, symbolic language, physical computing and programming, robotics and teamwork.

- Students will demonstrate all the above by being able to solve challenge-based problems by constructing LEGO or similar materials, or by building and programming with the LEGO Mindstorm robotics platform.

- Students will engage in real-world problem solving and public speaking activities.

- Students will gain and apply STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) based skills.


We are programming and building the LEGO Mindstorm NXT-G. The students will be developing and practicing skills using the LEGO Mindstorm NXT-G. We will be competing in the First LEGO League(FLL) competitions this school year in the fall. For more information on the LEGO Mindstorm NXT-G and FLL: . Sumo Bots

In the spring, we are competing in Sumo Bot competitions. We will have tournament at McClintock Middle Schoolin March as well as one at App. State University in April (


  • We are currently practice Tuesday and Thursday after school.

Awards and Recognitions:

  • The M^3 came in 1st place in programming at the Oct. 2012 Robostock III competition at the Cannon School.

  • The M^3 came in 2nd place in programming at the Nov. 2012 Local FLL competition in Charlotte, NC.

  • The M^3 came in 3rd place in programming at the Oct. 2011 Robostock III competition at the Cannon School.
